"O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth", sings King David in Psalm 96: 1. James writes in his epistle, "Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise" (James 5: 13). The Gospel records that Jesus also sang hymns. We read in Mark 14: 26, "When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives". Solomon specifically appointed elected people to sing, as recorded in 1 Chronicles 6: 32, "And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order".
